DGS President 2022

Nasher AlBinHassan

Nasher graduated in 1994 from King Fahad University of Petroleum and Minerals (KFUPM) with a BS in Geophysics. He received his MS in Geophysics in 2003 from the University of Houston and obtained his PhD (2010) in Geophysics from Imperial College London. From 1994-2001, Nasher worked for Saudi Aramco as a computer analyst, programmer and provided seismic interpretation software support. Since 2004, he is working with the Geophysical Technology Team under EXPEC-ARC. Some of his contributions were: predicting reservoir properties using artificial intelligent methods and automation in interpretation to extract faults and horizons automatically from seismic data. Currently, Nasher is leading the EXPEC-ARC Digital ARC 4IR initiative and the champion of AI and Big Data Analytics technologies. Nasher has been an experienced volunteer in DGS for several years and held several positions in the DGS executive committee.

Musab Modrra

Musab Al-Modrra holds a BSc in Geology from the University of Oklahoma (OU) and two MSc degrees in Petroleum Economics and Management from Colorado School of Mines (CSM) and Institut Français du Pétrole (IFP School). Musab has been an experienced volunteer in DGS for several years and held several positions in the DGS executive committee. Roles & Responsibilities involved young professional activities, field trips, social events, mentorship activities, technical competitions, technical workshops, conferences, professional dinners and luncheons. DGS Treasurer 2022

Eyad Aljishi

I graduated from University of Oklahoma with a bachelor degree in Geophysical exploration and joined Aramco in July 2018. Since then, I have been in multiple assignments in with imaging department, Regional Resources Assessments and Red Sea Exploration.
Currently, I am working in the geophysical division in EXPEC ARC under the Intelligent Geophysical Data Mining team focusing on AI and Machine learning Applications on Subsurface Research.

Fahad AlDossary

Fahad is working as a Division Secretary for REGIONAL RESOURCE ASSESSMENT DIV under EXPLORATION RESOURCE ASSESSMENT DEPT / REGIONAL RESOURCE ASSESSM. He has spent some time with other organizations. He is well-rounded with prompt actions on every task she handles. He is running for the secretary position.

Layal Khan

I’m a geologist, graduated from the university of Colorado at Boulder. I joined the company as PDP in 2019, and was on assignment with the Surface Geology Division (GLOD) for over a year. My experience with SGD aids me with the right resources to be the fieldtrip coordinator for DGS. I am passionate about being in the field, and sharing knowledge of geosciences. I am eagerly enthusiastic about DGS activities and their impact on the company as a whole.

Sattam Almutairi

My name is Sattam Almutairi. I work in EXPEC Advanced research center specializes in Geochemistry. I graduated from Ohio State with Bs degree in Geology. Then I continued my advanced studies in Texas Tech University and finished a masters degree in stable isotopes geochemistry.

I have published over 11 conferenced and journal papers. I have 2 granted patents and 2 filed ones. I was part of many successful technology deployments in EXPEC ARC, with over 10 technologies have been deployed.

I am currently a team leader in Expec Arc. I am also a vice chair of SPE_T&SA. I am also working as a knowledge management representative in my home department.

Elspeth Crawford

I am an Engineer with 15 years experience in the petroleum industry, primarily with unconventional stimulation. I worked in the US for 8 years before coming to Saudi Arabia, and have been working here for the past 7 years in the Unconventional department. I have authored papers in the states and in Saudi for SPE, and enjoy mentoring and sharing knowledge with the engineers I work with.

I enjoy giving knowledge sharing sessions and attending technical discussions and other programs at my workplace, and feel that a position in the Technical Meeting Officer is something I would excel at. In my cross-disciple work circle, I work in teams with geologists, geophysicists and reservoir engineers to meet goals around the office. With this understanding of the technical information that should be shared across disciplines, I would better weed out topics to further our groups knowledge.

Abrar Alabbad

Abrar Alabbad is a geologist working for EXPEC ARC since 2011. Abrar completed her BSc in Geoscience at Penn State in 2011 and earned her MS degree in Geophysics from Stanford University in 2015. Her current focus is on applying theoretical and digital rock physics analysis to unconventional reservoirs. Abrar has been active in several professional societies including SEG, EAGE, SPE, AAPG, and DGS. Abrar was the second-place winner at the Upstream hackathon for automating core description, she was int he top five participants in the EXPEC ARC’s grand challenge, she was shortlisted for the LEWA’s rising star award. Abrar held several positions including the researchers development committee, EAGE’s education committee, SEG|EAGE|AAPG joint geoscience conference technical committee, president of New Discovery Toastmasters club, public relations officer of Toastmasters Saudi Arabia chapter, and many more. Aside from geoscience, Abrar likes to organize social activities, learning about talent development, and likes to know more about cultures around the world and go out in nature.

Yaser AlZayer

Yaser is the team lead of Unconventional Resources an Emerging Play Concepts Focus Area in the Geology Technology Division, EXPEC ARC. His research interests include mechanical stratigraphy, fracture characterization, and forward geomechanical modeling. He serves as a technical reviewer for Journal of Petroleum Science and Engineering, Marine and Petroleum Geology and many conferences including AAPG Annual Convention and Exhibition, American Rock Mechanics Symposium, and IPTC. Yaser has authored and co-authored more than 20 publications including conference papers and peer-reviewed journals. He received a bachelor degree in geology with business minor from the University of Kansas, he also received a master and a PhD in geological sciences from the University of Texas at Austin.

Ezzedeen AlFataierge

Ezzedeen Alfataierge, PhD., is a research geophysicist working with Aramco’s EXPEC Advanced Research Center, under the Geophysical Technology Division, with the Data Acquisition and Robotization Focus Area. He has been an active member of the organization, representing GPT in executive meetings, leading several developmental projects, and contributing to many other novel seismic data acquisition technologies.

He obtained his BS in Geophysics with honors in 2011, MS in Geophysics with concentration in Rock Physics in 2015, and PhD in Geophysics with concentration in Fiber-Optic Sensing in 2019, all from the University of Houston. During which he was an active member of the Society of Exploration Geophysics (SEG) student chapter, serving the executive committee for two terms. As well as an active volunteer in the Geophysical Society of Houston (GSH). While serving as a active member in the Allied Geophysical Laboratories at the University of Houston.

Abdullrhman Alkhunaini

I joined Saudi Aramco in 2010 as CDPNE students, graduated as a geologist from King Fahd University of Petroleum and Minerals in 2016.

Abdullrhman’s experience started in Geological Solutions Division as carbonate sedimentologist for six months, then joined STEP, UPOP and Geoscience Train 11. During the journey, I had many opportunities to present to management level and work with senior colleagues in high level projects. I joined Goesteering Operation Center for one year as an assignment where he managed to monitor critical drilling operation. Moreover, during GOC assignment I was giving the opportunity to be host presenter to several guests: MIT Sloan Fellows Alumni, Reuters Media and UPDC participants . I’m currently a member of Play Fairway and Concept team with RRAD/ERAD.

In addition, I presented a poster in AAPG Carbonate Reservoirs of the Middle East Workshop. Also, I engaged in DGS as an active member and volunteered as instructor in several events: Summer Gifted Program, Talented Student Program and GEO.

Naser ANaser

I am Naser Alnaser, I recently joined EXPEC ARC – GPT as a researcher geophysicist. I graduated from KFUPM with Bachelor’s degree in Geophysics. In my college years, I became the secretary of Society of Exploration Geophysicist KFUPM Student Chapter. As well as, enrolling in SPE as a volunteer to coordinate the chapter activities.

Khalid Alotaibi

Khalid Alotaibi is a board member of the Dhahran Geoscience Society (DGS) Executive Committee and currently serving the DGS Vice President for Professional Development 2020 term. He has over 9 years of experience with Saudi Aramco and currently leading the Pilot and Development team within Southern Unconventional Characterization Division, Unconventional Resources. Prior to his role with the UR, he worked in several departments such as Area Exploration Department, Wellsite Division, Geosteering Operation Center, and Unconventional Assignment with Schlumberger. Khalid enjoys volunteering work as he has several experiences in his Academic and professional career, some of which are Aberdeen Saudi Club Activity Director, Exploration Safety Initiative (EXSI Initiative) committee, Curtin University International Student Ambassador and DGS Public Event Officer. Khalid holds a Bachelor of Science Degree in Geology and Petroleum Geology with honor from Aberdeen University, UK and a Master Degree in Basin Analysis and Petroleum Geology with High Distinction from Curtin University, Australia.

Noha AlLababidi

Geologist, working on seal and charge analysis in SEAD. I was a part of DGS since 2015 and ran a team in 2017 under the YP section. The Family Fun Day was planned by me and with other members were we designed an event that DGS member and their family can enjoy the mystery hunt, games, food and music. I am also part of SPE, I was engaged with one of the teams were I also did an event.

Nawaf AlGhamdi

Nawaf Alghamdi Geophysicist, Saudi Aramco Company: Nawaf Alghamdi began his career with Aramco in 2019 as a geophysicist who graduated with a 1st class bachelor degree in Geophysical Science from University of Leeds, UK. Since joining Aramco, Nawaf spent significant time working with Northern Unconventional Characterization Division – NUCD gaining unparalleled knowledge and experience in the unique seismic interpretation workflows that transformed the unconventional vertical fracturing campaign in the targeted reservoir to hunting porous sweet spots within the reservoir for the cost effective natural gas flow. He also worked on the gas-water distribution within the core area of North Arabia to understand and unravel the complexity of the main targeted reservoir.

For a period of six months, Nawaf worked with Portfolio Governance Group – PGG starting from learning the PRMS guidelines, uncertainty analysis and risk assessments by applying a probabilistic approach for the targeted reservoirs, all the way to became the champion of 2020 Northern Unconventional Characterization Division – NUCD resource endowment and portfolio analysis. In addition, Nawaf submitted a paper in MEOS titled ‘’The Value of Seismic Data in Conventional and Unconventional Fields’’ which was accepted as a Technical Presentation at the 2021 SPE Middle East Oil & Gas Show Conference.
Currently, Nawaf works in Pore Volume Assessment Division – PVAD, on 2D modelling, quantifying the conditions of utilizing seismic data in resource assessment and scrutinizing 3D modeling as per PRMS and Aramco guidelines. He was the main coordinator & MC for the 2021 PVAD workshop titled ‘’ Uncertainty in Resource Assessment: Opportunity or Liability?’’, where the workshop was considered the first of its kind which was held by Pore Volume Assessment Division – PVAD.
